About
“The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.”
Our primary goal is to gain the trust and support of residents in Taunton Deane, and efficiently represent them at local council level, as well as in parliament. We do this by facilitating and organising campaigns, championing local residents, fundraising for meaningful causes, shaping Labour’s national policy so that it serves Taunton Deane’s interest, championing diversity and much more.
Campaigning
We are passionate about campaigning, not just at election time but for key local and national issues all year round. We’d love you to get involved – please contact our Campaigns Coordinator – secretary@tauntondeanelabour.org.uk
Canvassing and Voter ID
Sounds more scary than it is! Getting out there, identifying supporters, gaining new supporters, and talking to people about the issues they care about is a key part of our election strategy, and most people really appreciate a chance to air their views.
Member Meetings
We get together once a month to catch up and discuss the local political landscape. We often have guest speakers with specialist knowledge, and more recently, chocolate biscuits, tea, and snacks. (thanks, Bob).
Policy
Supported by Jon Gray, our Policy Officer, we formulate our responses to local issues and feed policy ideas and priorities into the main Labour Party via our representatives on Labour’s National Policy Forum.
Fundraising
Fighting elections costs money, and we are always interested in finding new and interesting ways to raise it. Recent examples include a public film screening, and a fundraiser dinner prepared by local catering students.
