The Liberal Democrats have lost control of Somerset West and Taunton district council today after yet more resignations have led to the party losing it’s controlling majority on the council.
Yet more by-elections will now be held in North Curry & Ruishton and Old Cleeve & District at the taxpayer’s expense. This comes immediately after the Trull, Pitminster & Corfe by-election caused by the resignation of another Liberal Democrat.
With Kerry Barker finishing a very close second in the race to be Avon & Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, and Dan Norris winning the race to be West of England Mayor, it is becoming abundantly clear that Labour are the natural opposition in Somerset and that members of the public are becoming increasingly frustrated with the mismanagement of local councils by the Liberal Democrats.
In Taunton, Fore Street remains closed to vehicles whilst traffic levels around the town remain unsustainable, with many local residents taking to local press to voice their concerns.
Labour has enjoyed fantastic results in the South of England at these local elections and it’s clear that the party’s focus on Jobs, the economy and local government is serving the people of Somerset well.
